“I first started at Encore Rehabilitation-Athens when my doctor referred me for lymphedema care. Encore has Therapists who are trained to provide lymphedema treatment. I had a great experience at Encore! Then, I fell almost three years ago and hurt my neck. June is Lipedema Awareness Month!
Lipedema is a chronic condition primarily affecting women, characterized by a disproportionate buildup of fat and is often misunderstood or misdiagnosed. It causes painful, abnormal build up of fat, typically in the legs, hips and under arms. Despite diet and exercise, the affected areas remain disproportionately enlarged.
Common Symptoms:
-Symmetrical swelling in legs or upper arms
-Pain or easy bruising in the affected areas
-Fat that does not respond to weight loss
Early diagnoses and treatment can help!
Effective Occupational Therapy treatment is available at Ocean Springs Neurological Rehabilitation to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

Marley had posterior labral tear in her arm from volleyball and cheer. She underwent surgery and then started Rehabilitation at Encore Rehabilitation – Andalusia! Occupational Therapist Ethan Powell worked with Marley on regaining her range of motion and upper extremity strengthening. Now, Marley has full range of motion and strength back in her arm!

These three gentlemen started Physical Therapy at our clinic as strangers, each recovering from spinal fusion surgery. Week by week, they showed up, pushed through the hard days, encouraged each other—and somewhere along the way, they became more than just patients… they became friends.
Now, you’ll rarely see one of them in the clinic without the others. They cheer each other on during exercises, share stories, and bring laughter to the clinic every visit!
Healing isn’t just physical—it’s emotional and relational too. And these guys are proof that sometimes, recovery brings more than strength… it brings brotherhood.
From walker races to cheering each other through challenging exercises, they turned rehab into a shared journey—and Physical Therapy into a team sport!
