Ms. Johnston is Patient of the Month for Encore Rehabilitation – Muscle Shoals

Meet Judith Johnston our Encore Rehabilitation – Muscle Shoals, Patient of the Month!

Mrs. Johnston is a dedicated individual who successfully strengthened her rotator cuff, under the direction of her Physical Therapist Tanner Hawkins, and was able to avoid shoulder surgery!

After experiencing persistent shoulder pain and limited mobility, Mrs. Johnston was faced with possibly undergoing surgery. However, through a commitment to physical therapy and rigorous strengthening regimen, she was able to regain strength, improve range of motion, and reduce her pain significantly.

Working closely with our Rehab Team, Mrs. Johnston followed a customized program that included targeted exercises, progressive resistance training, and mobility drills.

Mrs. Johnston said, “Tanner Hawkins, PT, had a plan to strengthen the muscles around the rotator cuff to help me avoid surgery and I am so much stronger now and the results are incredible! I am so pleased! Tanner is kind and gentle and knows the exact exercises needed for each problem area you have and his skill level is amazing!”

October is National Physical Therapy Month!

At Encore Rehabilitation, Inc., we’re excited to celebrate this special month with the theme “Fall Prevention: Building Stronger Steps for Safer Lives!” As we focus on safety at home, it’s important to share essential tips for preventing falls.

Home Safety Tips for Fall Prevention

1. Remove Clutter and Tripping Hazards: Keep floors clear of items like shoes, books, or loose cords, and arrange furniture to create wide pathways in high-traffic areas.

2. Install Grab Bars and Handrails: Place sturdy grab bars in bathrooms and handrails along stairs for extra support and stability in slippery areas.

3. Improve Lighting: Ensure all areas of the home, especially stairs and hallways, are well-lit. Use bright bulbs and install nightlights for easier navigation at night.

4. Secure Rugs and Use Non-Slip Mats: Use double-sided tape or non-slip backing to keep rugs in place, and place non-slip mats in wet areas to prevent slips.

5. Keep Essentials Within Reach: Store frequently used items within easy reach to avoid unsafe climbing or stretching.

6. Use Assistive Devices:Equip yourself with canes, walkers, or reachers to improve mobility and reduce the risk of falls. A physical therapist can recommend the right device for your needs.

Meet K9 Kilo and Encore Rehabilitation-Priceville, Week 2

MEET KILO THURSDAY!

Each Thursday, The Rehab Team at Encore Rehabilitation – Priceville will share about K9-Kilo and Officer Lucas Ferrell of the Priceville Police Department, Alabama!

THIS WEEK:
~ Kilo is a social and friendly dog, but as a working dog, petting is not allowed.

~ Kilo is with Officer Lucas Ferrell 24/7, both on and off duty.

~ Kilo has become a local celebrity, having been interviewed by local news media and making several public appearances.

~ Community support has been overwhelming positive, especially with the success of the fundraising t-shirts for the K9 unit.

~ Kilo absolutely loves his role as a police dog and eagerly puts on his harness when it’s time to go to work.

Spring Cosby, a Dothan native, and is glad to be a part of the Rehab Team at Encore as a Physical Therapist Assistant and works in outpatient therapy. She loves helping her patients get back to doing what they love in life!

In her spare time, she loves spending time with her husband and two kids as well as her extended family. Spring also lives up to her name with a great love of growing plants and sharing them with others.

Meet Walt Hennicke, our newest Encore Rehabilitation – Winfield employee!

Walt will be working as a Physical Therapy Aide through the Work Based Learning Program at Winfield City High School. Walt is a Senior at Winfield City High School where he competes in football and baseball. He plans on pursuing a degree in Anesthesiology after high school.
