North-South All-Star Golf Rosters
Released for 2020 by AHSADCA
MONTGOMERY – North-South Girls’ and Boys’ Golf All-Star Teams for the 2020 AHSAA North-South All-Star Sports Week were announced Monday by Jamie Lee, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA).
The two 10-member teams comprised of 2021 rising seniors were chosen by a special coaches committee from nominations received from AHSAA member school golf coaches.
“We are proud to announce these teams even though we are disappointed that the All-Star competition set for the All-Star Sports Week this summer has been canceled,” said Lee. “Nonetheless, these 40 individual players earned this recognition and will be receiving certificates from the AHSADCA for their selection to these prestigious squads.”
The AHSADCA, which operates under the auspices of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) and annually North-South all-star games in football, baseball, softball, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ basketball, cross country, tennis and golf during the All-Star Week. The games were canceled earlier this week due to the COVID 19 Virus pandemic. The AHSAA Summer Conference, annually attended by more than 4,000 coaches and administrators, will still be July 13-18 but been changed to a virtual conference.
The AHSADCA will also release the boys’ and girls’ tennis, baseball, softball and boys’ and girls’ soccer all-star teams later this week. The other all-star squads have already been announced.
Coaches for the All-Star Golf squads include: (North Girls) Jason Pierce, Glencoe; Emily Stapler, Arab; (North Boys) Chris Randall, White Plains; Chad Gladden, Hartselle; Derrick Gargis, Muscle Shoals (administrative coach); (South Girls) Rex Bynum. Among the South boys’ all-stars are Houston Academy rising seniors Matthew Streitman and Alan McDonald, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in as the Raiders won the Class 3A state boys title in 2019. Also on the South team is Tyler Bjorgum of Gulf Shores, who finished tied for fourth in the 6A state tourney.
Anchoring the North boys’ team are Brooks teammates Zach Ashley and Justin Olive, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, as the Lions won the Class 4A state title in 2019. The duo carded 155 and 156 in the 36-hole competition. The North girls’ team features Erika Allen of 2019 Class 4A/5A state runner-up Northside. She finished second in the individual competition with 75-71—146 over the two-day tourney held at The Prattville RTJ golf course. She and her sisters Ashlee and Karlee Allen combined to claim the 4A/5A state championship in 2018 for Northside when she was just a freshman.
Springville. Marcelino and Chambers finished second in Class 4A and 3A, respectively, and Tucker took third place in Class 5A.

AHSAA Summer Conference and Coaching School to be a Virtual Conference July 13-18, 2020
FROM AHSAA – NEWS RELEASE
MONTGOMERY –Director Jamie Lee of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association (AHSADCA) announced Monday the Principals & Athletic Directors Conference scheduled for June 2-3 is being merged with the AHSAA Summer Conference, which is being converted to a virtual conference online. The conference dates will remain July 13-18.
“Due to the ADPH guidelines concerning social distancing and the concern over large group gatherings, we feel it is in the best interest of our member schools to make these adjustments,” said Lee. “We are grateful to have the technology available to provide this important professional development.”
He also announced several other adjustments being made to the AHSADCA’s summer event schedule including moving the 2020 Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet to Monday, September 21. The schedule changes include:
- SUMMER CONFERENCE & PRINCIPALS AND AD CONFERENCE – The AHSADCA, which hosts the annual AHSAA summer event that is attended by more than 4,000 annually, is converting the “Coaching School” clinics and coaches’ rules tests to virtual events. The Principal & Athletic Directors’ Conference will also be presented virtually as part of the Summer Conference lineup of professional development opportunities.
- ALL-STAR SPORTS WEEK: All North-South All-Star games set for the annual All-Star Sports Week, including the North-South Football Game, are being canceled for July. However, the North-South All-Star Football Game featuring seniors still to be selected from the Class of 2021 will be played in December, 2020, and will remain in December each year moving forward. All-Star Teams selected will still be recognized and all student-athletes selected will receive certificates.
- ALL-STAR TEAMS TO BE RECOGNIZED: The Spring Sports all-star teams (baseball, softball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, golf and tennis) are being released this week. All-Star teams for football, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ cross country and boys’ and girls’ basketball have already been announced. “We want to recognize the players and coaches selected even though we are unable to hold the events this summer,” said Lee.
- AHSADCA BASKETBALL SHOWCASE: The second annual Elite 100 showcase, which was scheduled for June, is being postponed until further notice from the NFHS & NCAA. More details will be announced once the date is set.
- ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS HALL OF FAME BANQUET: Rescheduled for June 22 earlier this spring, the Class of 2020 induction banquet has been moved to September 21 at the Montgomery Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center.
