The North-South Boys and Girls Soccer Doubleheader will be at Emory Folmar Soccer Complex, Montgomery, on Tuesday, July 17, with the girls playing at 5 p.m., followed by the boys at 7 pm.Coaches for the South Girls Soccer All-Stars are Cheryl Flores of McGill-Toolen Catholic, who coached the Lady Jackets to the school’s first Class 7A state championship last season, and Sophie Simantel of Auburn. Ken Wright of the Montgomery Public Schools is administrative coach.
Coaches for the North Girls Soccer All-Stars are Helena’s Cliff Naron and Russellville’s Trey Sanford. George Cavender (retired-SR Butler) will be the administrative assistant.
Coaching the North Boys Soccer All-Stars are Matthew Pharr of Cherokee County and Jake Siefert of Sparkman. Ken Wright of the Montgomery Public Schools is administrative coach.
Coaching the South Boys Soccer All-Stars are Bruce Ladner of Enterprise and Nick Berryman of Alabama Christian. George Cavender (retired- SR Butler) will be the administrative assistant.
The North swept both matches in 2017 with the girls winning 4-1 and the boys 5-2. The North girls hold a 13-2-1 edge in the series and the North Boys have a 10-4-1 advantage.

All-Star squads for the 2018 All-Star Sports Week’s North-South girls’ fast-pitch softball games have been selected.
A total of 36 outstanding juniors–18 on each team–were chosen from nominations submitted by high school coaches from across the state to participate at the 22th annual AHSAA Summer Conference and AHSADCA All-Star Games competition in Montgomery July 17 — 19,2018.
The North-South softball doubleheader will be at Lagoon Park Tuesday, July 17, with the first game set for 6 p.m. The second game will following 30 minutes after its conclusion at approximately 8 p.m.
Coaching the South team is Mark Eubanks of Jeff Davis and Todd Clements of Eufaula. Susan Barnes of Elba is the administrative coach.
North coaches are Ann Welsh of Spring Garden and Al Rauls of Buckhorn. Kent Chambers of Bob Jones is the administrative coach. Rauls, who led the Lady Bucks to the Class 7A state crown last season, was inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame last March in the Class of 2018.
In last year’s all-star competition, the North won game one 12-6 and the South won the nightcap 11-1. The North holds a 25-10-3 edge in the series that was first played in 1997.

The 59th North-South All-Star football game will close out the all-star competition Thursday night, July 19, at Cramton Bowl.
The AHSAA Summer Conference is a week-long event that includes sports-specific clinics and special sessions for coaches, principals, athletic directors, cheerleading coaches and officials. Also, an All-Sports Equipment Expo and other related activities are scheduled throughout the week.
Among the week’s highlights will be the Sportsmanship Luncheon honoring all schools that have not had an ejection or fine during the 2017-18 school year and the Championship Coaches Awards Banquet that includes the naming of the 2018 Making A Difference Award recipients, 2017-18 Coaches of the Year and the AHSADCA Athletic Director of the Year. Both banquets will be Friday, July 20. Concluding the week will be the annual Officials Awards luncheon set for Saturday, July 21.

North-South All-Star squads for the upcoming 59th AHSAA North-South All-Star Football Game have been selected. The two teams, composed of 2018 graduating seniors, were announced by Alvin Briggs, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA) Tuesday.
The North-South Game will be played Thursday, July 19 at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. The annual game will be live-streamed by the NFHS Network and broadcast by the AHSAA Radio Network.
The South holds a 30-26-2 edge in the North-South. The North won 14-13 last July, its third straight victory in the series which was first played in 1948. The North won that first game played in Tuscaloosa 33-0.
NORTH SQUAD
Coach Chris Musso, beginning his sixth season as head coach at Locust Fork, has compiled a 53-52 career record in 10 seasons – the first five at John Carroll (23-29) and the last five at Locust Fork (30-23). The Hornets have made the state playoffs three of the last four years.
The North Coaching Staff includes Tom Causey, Pelham; Drew Gilmer, Clay-Chalkville; Ryan Lolley, Gordo; Mark Sanderson, Donoho; Matt Griffith, Sylacauga; and James Thompson, Pickens County.
Headlining the North squad is defensive lineman Khamari Brown of Class 7A state champion Hoover, defensive lineman Desmond Scott and wide receiver Liallen Dailey of Class 6A state champion Pinson Valley. Leeds and Thompson have three players each selected. Green Wave seniors include kicker Greg Dawkins; offensive lineman Gage Towery; and defensive back Jaylen Washington. Chosen from the Class 7A Warriors (12-1) are defensive back Myles Brown, wide receiver Tim Harris-Edwards; and defensive lineman Mackie McNeal.
SOUTH SQUAD
Coach Aubrey Blackwell of Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School has led the Knights to a 22-11 record over his three seasons as head coach. Last year’s team finished 10-2, won the school’s first region title and first playoff game since 1989.
The South Coaching Staff consists of Jon Cooper, Kinston; Josh McClendon, Greenville; Kenny King, Daphne; Erik Speakman, Opelika; Kevin Smith, Benjamin Russell; and Andro Williams, W.S. Neal.
South Squad: Eight players who helped their teams play in state championship games last December have been selected to play in the 2018 game. Named to the South squad are quarterback Swift Lyle of Class 5A state champion St. Paul’s Episcopal and linebacker Shamar Lewis of Class 1A state champion Sweet Water. Defensive back Eric Cameron-Garror and running back Bryan Hill of Class 7A runner-up McGill-Toolen Catholic and offensive lineman Tavien White of Class 6A runner-up Wetumpka are also on the South squad. Goshen, which reached the Class 2A semifinals and finished with 12 wins for the first time in school history, is the only team to place three seniors on the South squad. Selected are quarterback Brock Snyder; wide receiver Zack Alford; and defensive lineman Devin Bell.
