Hoover High School’s Josh Niblett Named Alabama All-Star Head Coach for 2018 Alabama-Mississippi Football Game*
MONTGOMERY – Hoover High School head football coach Josh Niblett will be the head coach for the Alabama All-Star football squad for the 32st annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game next December. The game will be played at Montgomery’s legendary Cramton Bowl on Monday night, Dec. 17 with a 6:30 p.m., kickoff. This will be the first game in the 31-year history to be played on Monday night.
Jamie Lee, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA) made the announcement at the 2018 Champion Challenge press conference Thursday at the AHSAA office.
Niblett, who served as head coach of the Alabama All-Stars in 2009, is one of the nation’s top high school coaches. He has coached six Hoover teams to AHSAA state championships and Oneonta to one title. The Bucs have been to the state finals every year except 2015 and 2008 since Niblett took over the program.
“It was a great experience when I coached in the game in 2009,” Niblett said. “I am looking forward to the opportunity again. It is very important to high school football in this state.”
Alabama lost 42-7 last year in Hattiesburg but still holds a 22-9 edge in the annual game that has pitted the top high school senior players from Alabama and Mississippi since 1988. Mississippi has won both games played in Mississippi (2015 and 2017). Alabama has a 22-7 edge in all games played in Alabama.
Piedmont’s Steve Smith was head coach in 2017.
Niblett, the son of a high school football coach, owns a 129-16 record at Hoover, the state’s largest high school. His Bucs have won 89% of their games with state titles in 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017 and finished second in 2008, 2010 and 2011. Oneonta won the 3A title in 2004 and was runner-up in 2003. His overall record is 194-48 (80%).
“Coach Niblett is one of our most outstanding high school head coaches in the nation,” said Lee.
The rest of the Alabama All-Star staff for next December’s game will be announced in the near future, Lee said. The AHSADCA, in conjunction with the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) administers the all-star game each year.
Encore Sports Medicine is proud to be the Official Provider of Athletic Training Services for the Hoover Bucs and the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
We LOVE to see you move!

Ed recently had two shoulder surgeries, first the left shoulder and then the right. Ed chose Encore Rehabilitation-Fayette for his physical therapy. He says, “My wife had two hip replacements and had her physical therapy at Encore. She did so well and was really pleased. When I had my left shoulder surgery and did my physical therapy at Encore, Marla, Natalie, and Brittney couldn’t have been any nicer or helpful to me.”
Thank you, Ed, for making Encore Rehabilitation your rehab provider!
