Christal Smith – Physical therapy Exercises Alleviate Pain

Christal Smith Photo ColumbianaRevised

Before Physical Therapy, I had almost constant pain in my lower back, buttocks, and right leg. My leg would constantly go to sleep. The pain was caused from a herniated disk in my lower back that was pushing on the nerve. Physical Therapy taught me exercises to completely alleviate the pain and my leg no longer goes to sleep all the time. I would recommend Encore Rehab because the therapists are very knowledgeable and also very friendly. They make Physical Therapy fun!” ~ Christal Smith, patient

Flyer outlining Coach Safely Program

Encore Rehabilitation, Inc. is proud to be the Education and Triage Partner of Alabama’s Coach Safely Foundation!

The Coach Safely Act (HB9), passed by Alabama Legislature, is the first of its kind to address public concerns about sports injuries for younger athletes (14 and younger).  This law  and the Coach Safely Program bring together community youth coaches and experts in the medical field to reduce sports injuries, increase education about injuries, and increase participation in sports activities. The law is administered under the Alabama Department of Public Health and will be piloted this fall. Advocates of the law include Coach Nick Saban of the University of Alabama, Coach Wille Slater of Tuskegee University, and numerous other coaches throughout the state.

One part of the Coach Safely program is an educational course for coaches. The course was developed by Dr. James R. Andrews and the Andrews Research & Education Foundation.  The course covers topics such as concussions; heat and exertion illness; trauma and overuse; sudden cardiac arrest; and emergency action plans.

The Coach Safely Foundation was formed to support the Coach Safely Program and to work with each of the approximately 400 municipalities in the State of Alabama. The Foundation is supported by Children’s of Alabama, Encore Rehabilitation, and ThreatAdvice as well as public and private grants.

Chinese Medical Professionals visit University of South Alabama Health System and Encore Rehabilitation-Part 5

business professionals posing in front of glass wall which reads University of South Alabama Medical Center

Medical Professional guests from China concluded their tour of Encore Rehabilitation facilities by visiting sites in south Alabama. While in the area, they visited locations within the University of South Alabama Health System: USA Medical Center, USA Strada Patient Care Center, and USA Children’s and Women’s Outpatient Rehab Clinic, as well as Encore Rehabilitation-Tillman’s Corner. Dr. Gregory H. Frazer, Dean of Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions at USA, joined Encore Rehabilitation Executives Paige Plash and Paul Henderson in leading the tour.  The visitors also enjoyed spending some time at the beach.

The Chinese Medical Professionals were learning more about how Physical Therapy is utilized for rehabilitation and a return to health. China is expected to have over 400 million people over the age of 60 by the year 2020. Due to China’s increasing population of older citizens, Western rehab practices like physical therapy are being incorporated with traditional Eastern rehab methods, such as acupressure and tai chi, to provide patient care. Throughout the week-long tour, the group was able to see Encore Rehabilitation therapists providing care in outpatient clinics, inpatient facilities, hospitals, school systems, industries, and fitness centers.
