17 Unbeaten Teams Advance to 2nd Round

MONTGOMERY — All seven defending state football champions and 17 unbeaten teams survived the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Football Playoffs and advance to the second round of games Nov. 11. 
The games will be played on Veterans Day, and in honor of the nation’s veterans, the AHSAA is asking all host schools to have a program honoring veterans prior to the playoff contest at each stadium. Instructions have been provided to each host school to assist them in honoring the veteras during a special pre-game program. All games are set to kick off at 7 p.m.

     The seven defending state champions include Class 1A Maplesville (9-0); Class 2A Elba (8-2); Class 3A Piedmont (10-0); Class 4A Leeds (8-2); Class 5A St. Paul’s Episcopal (7-3);  Class 6A Spanish Fort (8-2); and Class 7A McGill-Toolen (10-0).
Unbeaten teams by class in the playoffs include: (Class 1A) Maplesville (10-0); Georgiana (11-0), Linden (11-0), Wadley (10-0), Addison (11-0); (Class 2A) G.W. Long (10-0); Fyffe (11-0); LaFayette (11-0); (Class 3A) Gordo (11-0); Piedmont (11-0); (Class 4A) Rogers (11-0); Class 5A: Carroll (11-0); Scottsboro (11-0); (Class 6A) Park Crossing (11-0); Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (11-0); (Class 7A) McGill-Toolen Catholic (11-0); and Hewitt-Trussville (11-0).

Congratulations to the Fairhope Encore Athlete of the Month, Jaylen Mass! Jaylen is a Junior athlete at Fairhope High School in Alabama. He is a Wide Receiver on the Pirates Varsity Football team and wears jersey #16. Jaylen has been on of our patients for 2 months now and has been receiving physical therapy after having ACL reconstruction surgery. He has been quickly recovering and will be back on the football field in no time. We’re proud of you Jaylen! Keep up the good work!

Congratulations to the Fairfield Encore Athlete of the Month, Skyler Roy! Skylar is a freshman athlete at Fairfield Prep High School. She has been on the Lady Tigers Cheerleading team for 1 year now and loves it. Skylar has a 3.6 GPA and plans to attend college after high school to major in Physical Therapy. She is the daughter of Sherree Williams.

Congratulations to the Arab Encore Athlete of the Month, Brent Myers! Brent is a senior athlete at Brindlee Mountain High School. He has been a member of the varsity Lions Football team for 4 years now and wears jersey #6. During his high school career, Brent has won the All-County, All-Region, and All-State awards in football. After graduation he plans to go to UNA and major in sports medicine to become an Athletic Trainer. Brent is the son of Corey and Derrick Duke.

Congratulations to the Fayette Encore Athlete of the Month, Tre Tranum! Tre is a senior, multi-sport athlete at Hubbertville High School. He is a member of the football and baseball teams and has played varsity sports for 6 years now.  Tre has received the Iron Bunch Award 6 times (!!!), and has also received the 2015 Lineman of the Year award! After high school, Tre plans to attend the University of Alabama and major in engineering. He is the son of Amanda and Kenny Tranum.

Congratulations to Tillman’s Corner Encore Athlete of the Month, Ava Balliviero! Ava is a senior athlete at Alma Bryant High School. She has been a member of the Lady Hurricanes Soccer team for 5 years and wears jersey #17. Ava has also won 2nd place in the Southern Shootout Soccer Competition. After graduation next spring, Ava plans to attend college to major in physical therapy. She is the daughter of Tessie Balliviero.

Congratulations to the Winfield Encore Athlete of the Month, Garrett Cooper! Garrett is a senior athlete at Marion County High School. He is a member of the Track and Cross Country team and has ran on varsity for 6 years. Garrett has won the Track All-County, award, All-Section award, All-State Pole Vault, and 2nd and 3rd place in pole vault at the State Indoor track meet! After college, Garrett plans to attend the University of Alabama to study Architectural Engineering. He is the son of David and Joy Cooper.
